Preparing for Battle
How does God prepare us for Battle? I think, perhaps, one battle at a time. Before David faced the giant Goliath he tells Saul in 1 Samuel 17:36 "Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear...". Of course, we do not battle alone. David continues in verse 37 when he says, "The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear, will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine." David acknowledges that it was God who delivered him in his prior battles, and it is God who will deliver him against Goliath. His battle against Goliath was not fought with the weapons of the world but in the name of the Lord God Almighty. How often do we look for the things of the world to get us through our battles? Our cravings and desires will never be satisfied when we look around at worldly solutions. They may pacify us for a time but in fact, whatever we choose to call it, it is nothing but sin.
