Signed, Sealed, and Delivered
"And you were included in Christ when you heard the Word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession to the praise of His glory." Ephesians 1:13-14
Besides being a faith builder, the Word of God also gives us great comfort and assurance. In Ephesians 1:13-14, we learn that when we hear and believe the gospel we are "marked in Him with a seal of the promised Holy Spirit, a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance." I love these two definitions.
1. Seal: A device or substance (Holy Spirit) that is used to join two things together so as to prevent them from coming apart or to prevent anything from passing between them."
2. Guarantee: A promise or assurance (from God, with a down payment of the Holy Spirit.)
Sometimes we allow things into our lives that can separate and lead us on a path away from God. But God, through His Spirit, draws us back to Him.
Thank you, Lord, for the assurance that you have given me in this scripture. Keep me close to you always and help me to honor you and glorify your name in all that I do."
